WHAT SHALL WE DO?

This was the question asked by the multitude assembled in the city of Jerusalem on the first Pentecost following the resurrection of Christ (Acts 2). They had been listening intently to the Apostle Peter as he cited prophecies concerning Christ and used them to confirm his deity. Peter's concluding remarks convicted the Jews of crucifying the Son of God.

As if taken by surprise the words spoken by Peter through the Holy Spirit pricked (convicted) their hearts (intellect) so that they said to Peter and to the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?"

Peter's reply (verse 38) was, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." The remedy for sin was, and still is, repentance and baptism. This was Christ's purpose in coming to earth (Luke 24:44-41). All who gladly receive His word can have remission of sins (Acts 2:41).
