WHAT'S IN A NAME

When discussions get around to religious names, someone is always too ready and willing to dismiss the subject lightly with, "Oh, well, there's nothing in a name."

The scriptures teach that there is considerable importance in a name. By researching all references to "name" in a good concordance, you may be amazed at how much emphasis is placed by divine inspiration in the name. Of special significance is the name of Jesus. Salvation is in his name only (Acts 4:12). His name is above every name and every knee should bow and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Eph. 2:9-11). The prophet Isaiah foretold that the people of God, after the Gentiles had been brought in, would be called by a new name (Isa 62:1-2), the fulfillment of which is recorded in Acts 11:26.

In all of man's social and business dealings, names are of paramount importance. Why is it that ONLY IN RELIGION do men went to claim there's nothing in a name?
