WHAT THE CHURCH IS

In the Holy Scriptures the word "church" is translated from the Greek "ekklesia" (ek-klay-see'-ah}, meaning literally "the called out."

The church is the body of Christ (Col. 1:18}. It consists of members in the world but not of the world (John 17:14-16}, who are not conformed to the world, but transformed (Rom. 12:2}. They have been called out of darkness into His marvelous light (I Pet. 2:9}, dedicated to living soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world (Tit. 2:12}. Their primary mission is to save others (Matt. 28:18-20, Mark 16:15}.

Membership in the Lord's body (church} can be attained very easily and readily. Penitent believers submit to scriptural baptism into Christ for the remission of sins (Mark 16:15-16, Acts 2:38, Gal. 3:26-27, I Cor. 5:11}, and the Lord adds them to his body, the church (Acts 2:47}.
