Bible Truth FAQs

THE TRUE TEST OF FAITH

The Christian walks by faith and not by sight (II Cor. 5:1). This is because faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Heb. 11:1). Faith is obtained through hearing the word of God (Rom. 10:11).

Many profess to have faith just because they believe a supreme being exists. Mere mental assent to the existence of God is not faith. If it were, then it could be claimed that the devils have faith. James stated (James 2:19) that the devils believe in God.

The faith that saves is the faith that obeys (Heb. 5:8-9). It is quite probable that what we want is not always what God wants. Our wills may conflict with God's will. The true test of faith is accepting and obeying God's will in all matters even when our own wills must be sacrificed. Unless God's directions take precedence, we cannot claim to have faith in Him.
