HOW SATAN TEMPTS

The first sin, as recorded in Genesis 3, demonstrated a complete pattern of Satan's temptation of mankind in that all avenues of approach were utilized. Satan, in the form of a serpent, approached Eve with the question, "Yea, hath not God said, ye shall not eat of every tree in the garden?" Eve replied that they may eat the fruit except from the tree in the midst of the garden. God had said, "Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die." The serpent said, "ye shall not surely die."

"And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her, and he did eat" {Gen. 3:6).

Notice the appeal was through: {1) lust of the flesh, {2) lust of the eyes, and {3) the pride of life. {See I John 2:16.) Also note that the serpent {Satan) was knowledgeable of God's word. He did not change it much. He added only one three-letter word, but that was enough to change the truth into a lie! Beware of any tampering with God's word!
