Bible Truth FAQs

ABRAHAM'S SIN

Abraham is universally known for his faithfulness. He is called the father of all them that believe (Rom. 4:11) and the Friend of God (James 2:23). All Christians are Abraham's seed (Gal. 3:29). And yet, like we are, he was subject to sin.

Twice it is recorded that Abraham resorted to deception when he feared for his life (Gen. 12:10-20, Gen. 20). Abraham and Sarah contrived to say they were brother and sister instead of husband and wife when they were in strange lands. Their words were literally true (Gen.20:12) but were designed to deceive, because they did not completely divulge their true relationship.

Withholding truth in order to deceive is a form of lying, and ALL liars shall have their part in the lake which shall burn with fire and brimstone (Rev. 21:8). Remember that forgiveness for any sin can be obtained through a proper application of God's laws of pardon (Acts 2:38, I John 1:9).
